Penny Piece

Samuel had a penny

He put it in his ear

The reason for this folly

Was never really clear

When he looked you sideways

The queen glinted in your eye

It’s such a pretty penny

Now with the queen he lies

It must be a metaphor

To cover up a truth

There has to be a meaning

As he stands there quite aloof

I think about that penny

Every single day

Peering from his eardrum

Without a word to say

I’ve written to her majesty

For an explanation

The post office won’t deliver

In case of confrontation

To test my reality

I put a penny in my ear

Although it made me deaf

The meaning is now clear

Penny is a symbol

Of whom I really am

It makes me a number

A follower of Sam
