The Leopard and the Carpenter
Discussed philosophy
What was meant by the meaning of life
At what it all could be
The Carpenter talked of grand design
Of consciousness and truth
Shaping the world to fit us all
And individual growth
The Leopard thought long and hard
Of how he lived his life
Changing of the environment
And his continual strife
‘Consciousness has damned my world
Given me no choice
Within the years I’ll be extinct
No longer hear my voice’
The Carpenter looked at his shoes
Then over the Leopards head
He could not look him in the eye
At a Leopard that was dead
The Carpenter thought deep and wide
His vision of the world
Of changing shapes and moving times
As life ahead unfurls
At last he answered gravely
‘I understand your thoughts
but life is constantly changing
that is what we’re taught.’
The Leopard faced the Carpenter
For in that truth he knew
He didn’t have a consciousness
To see a future view
He had no creativity
By instinct he survived
But the destruction of his environment
Left him nowhere to hide
Man now ruled the universe
Shaping always new
Consciously creating
A world that he thought true
Extinction of the species
Was part of nature’s plan
To put in place human Gods
The rest of life be damned
Leopard turned and walked away
Truth had bit him in the arse
For he was part of history
A relic of the past
The Carpenter began to build
Visions in the air
A paradise of pure thought
Which only Gods would share.
